Lake Hiawatha resident charged with distribution and possession of child pornography.

A Lake Hiawatha man has been arraigned on charges he distributed images of child sexual abuse over the Internet, with more than 46,000 images found on his electronic devices, according to the Department of Justice.

Khalil Survey, 39, of Lake Hiawatha, was arraigned on Wednesday after previously being indicted on one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distributing child pornography.

According to a release from the DOJ, special agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations, along with other law enforcement, seized a computer, an iPhone, and several electronic storage devices at the Morris County Community College student's home on the strength of a search warrant on Aug. 4, 2011.

The search found 46,353 images of child sexual abuse, including 983 images involving infants and toddlers, and 783 images involving sadomasochistic abuse, the DOJ said. The defendant's iPhone also allegedly had screen captures of him downloading what appeared to be images of child pornography on a peer-to-peer network on a desktop computer.

Survey faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on the distribution charge. U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman credited special agents of ICE-HSI, under direction of Special Agent in Charge Andrew M. McLees in Newark, with the investigation leading to the indictment.
