Morris Teen Sues Parents for Private School Tuition, Living Expenses

Seeking damages for a supposed outstanding Morris Catholic tuition bill, future encumbered costs for college tuition, and the resulting legal fees, a high school senior from Lincoln Park is suing her parents.

Rachel Canning, 18, says she was kicked out of her home in October by her parents, according to dailyrecord.com. In the time since, she’s stayed at the home of her best friend Jaime Inglesino in Rockaway Township, the report said. Inglesino’s father, John, is the town attorney for Parsippany-Troy Hills Township.

In the lawsuit, Canning is asking that her parents Sean and Elizabeth Canning pay an outstanding $5,306 tuition bill due to private school Morris Catholic, fund the daughter’s current living and transportation expenses, and commit an existing college fund for their daughter, USA Today reported.

Canning has been accepted to a number of colleges and universities. She’s an honor student at the private school and plays lacrosse there.

Canning’s father, a former Lincoln Park police chief and current Mt. Olive Township administrator, says his daughter may have been encouraged to file the suit by the Inglesinos, and that his daughter was never thrown out of the house; rather, she left on her own last fall, dailyrecord.com reported.

A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in Superior Court in Morristown.
