UPDATE: Electric Heater Possible Cause of Park Road House Fire

Police officer finds dog unharmed in residence, blaze extinguished quickly Wednesday morning.

An electric heater was the possible cause of a house fire on Park Road where a Parsippany Police officer found a dog unharmed inside Wednesday morning, police said.

According to a statement released Wednesday afternoon by the police department, an area resident reported the fire at about 8:15 a.m.

The responding officers observed flames outside of a ground-floor window in the front of the house and Officer Joseph Chmura gained entry, escorting a large brown dog from the home, police said.

The Parsippany Volunteer Ambulance squad and Par-Troy EMS also responded to provide medical stand-by for the firefighters, police said. The incident does not appear to be suspicious, but remains under investigation, police said.

It appears that the fire may have been caused by an electric heater found on the ground level of the house, according to the police report.

The fire was extinguished in approximately 15 to 20 minutes, according to the . The fire started in an unoccupied bedroom and there were no injures, fire chief Joe Reeber said.

The fire company, along with the and the ., responded to the call at approximately 8:15 a.m., Reeber said.

According to an occupant of the house, Gustavo Colindres, both he and his girlfriend, who share the bedroom where the fire started, were at work when the fire started. He said he received a call about the incident after 11 a.m.

The fire company left the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m., Reeber said.
