UPDATED: Tornado Watch Extended, Police Advise Caution

Sporadic power outages still occurring in the township and in surrounding areas as heavy rains move eastward.

The pleasant weather of the last few days is taking a break, as power outages brought about by heavy rains Tuesday morning showed with a tornado watch originally set until 7 p.m. now extended through 9 p.m.

More than 3,000 residents without power had it restored early on—but 168 Parsippany customers are in the dark as of 7 p.m., according to Jersey Central Power and Light. Heavy downpours Tuesday evening indicate that the day's weather adventure is not over.

The National Weather Service reports hazardous weather in the form of showers and thunderstorms could plague the area through the rest of Tuesday, as a strong cold front has been bringing locally heavy rain. There is the threat of potential flooding in areas of poor drainage.

Police recommend securing outdoor items such as patio furniture and garbage cans.

The PPD also cautions drivers to travel with extra care, especially on bridges and elevated roadways.

Wednesday should be mostly cloudy with gradually returning sunshine, but comfortable and dry late-summer weather is expected to return Thursday, with sunny skies, temperatures in the 70s and low humidity.
