PAL and Police Team Up for CPR Classes
Police Athletic League hosts a training designed to make sure youth leaders are prepared for an emergency.
The Parsippany Police Department did its part to make sure kids are safe while playing sports as part of the Police Athletic League. On Aug. 2 and 4, officers presented a training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for P.A.L.'s football and cheerleading staffers. By the end of the two sessions, 17 participants were C.P.R. certified.
The idea for classes was born when P.A.L. Director Tony Bonavitacola asked the police to train his staff, men and women who work with Parsippany youth.
Training was facilitated by Officer Douglas Weidanz, a 9-year state-certified emergency medical technician, and Officer Earl Kinsey, a department spokesperson and a 15-year state-certified mobile intensive care unit paramedic. Both are certified American Heart Association C.P.R. instructors.
Students learned both American Heart Association Heartsaver C.P.R., which includes instruction in how to use an automated external defibrillator, and Child C.P.R.
