Parsippany Boy in Critical Condition After Nearly Drowning

A boy was pulled out of three feet of 'choppy' water and airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, report says.

A young Parsippany boy was hospitalized in critical condition Saturday after nearly drowning at a Vernon beach, according to a recent report.

The 7-year old-boy was swimming at Wawayanda Lake beach in Vernon on Saturday, July 20.

A swimmer emerged from the water around noon carrying the child he found submerged in about three feet of what he described as “choppy” water and alerted the lifeguard, Press Director Larry Ragonese of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection told northjersey.com.

A crew of lifeguards immediately called 911 and performed CPR on the boy but he was unresponsive. A rescue team arrived at 12:30 p.m. and continued CPR and attempted to revive him using a defibrillator, Ragonese told the newspaper.

The child remained unresponsive and was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, where he has remained since Saturday, they reported.
