Parsippany Man Injured After Excavator Rolls Down Embankment

Two taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries during work in Chatham.

Two workers were injured Wednesday when an excavator rolled down a steep embankment where they were building a home on Fairmount Avenue, Chatham Borough Police said.

According to police, Nicolino Magnacca, 51, of Long Valley, was operating an excavator when it rolled down the embankment he was digging at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Richard Pfeiffer, 63, of Parsippany, jumped out of the excavator he was operating downslope when he saw the other machine rolling down the hill toward him, police said.

Both men were transported to Morristown Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Chatham Emergency Squad, fire department and OSHA responded to the scene.

Fairmount Avenue was closed Thursday so the excavator could be removed with a crane.
