The girlfriend of a Parsippany native will not be charged after he was shot dead in his San Diego bedroom, according to a recent report.
Meghan Elizabeth Fletcher, 29, was arrested after Christopher Black, 28, was found with a bullet wound to the chest in his apartment at about 11:28 p.m. on March 23, San Diego police told nj.com.
“Black was shot while struggling with Fletcher over control of a handgun, police said. The pair's argument had escalated into a physical confrontation,” according to the report.
District Attorney spokeswoman Tanya Sierra said they decided not to charge Fletcher after a thorough investigation.
“(The District Attorneys Office” can only file charges when we can prove them beyond a reasonable doubt," they told nj.com.
According to his obituary, Black was born in Denville and grew up in Parsippany before moving to San Diego in 2008.
Black enlisted in the Army in 2003 and was stationed in South Korea, Iraw and Hawaii and also served in Operation Freedom. He was honorably discharged in 2008 with the rank of Sergeant in Military Intelligence.
