Police Nab Married Couple in Walgreens Robbery

The following arrest information was supplied by the Parsippany Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

say an officer's hunch led to the arrest of a local married couple in connection with a robbery of $90 in cash and $360 in Halloween costumes Sunday evening at the at 1460 Route 46. Richard and Patricia face charges including 

After receiving a call about a citizen needing assistance, Officer Alfred Keiser drove into the parking lot of the Walgreens Shopping Center. The officer reportedly noticed a man leaving the Walgreens store, according to Ptlm. Earl Kinsey, who "walked quickly out of the store with his hands in his pockets. He glanced up at Officer Keiser with a distressed expression on his face. He quickly got into a grey vehicle that appeared to have been waiting for him on the side of the building. The vehicle then sped off into the Troy Hills Village Apartments."

Keiser radioed police headquarters with descriptions of the suspect and the vehicle and said he planned to stop the car, said police. The dispatcher told Keiser that a man fitting the description had just robbed Walgreens. 

A Walgreens employee had called 9-1-1 after a man, reportedly Loffredo, came up to the cash register to buy a bag of peanuts, Ptlm. Kinsey reported. He said the cashier rang the man up, the cash register opened and the suspect "lunged across the counter top and grabbed the cash drawer.

"A struggle ensued, police report, before the employee released the drawer. The suspect took $90 from the drawer and started walking quickly out of the store. That was when Officer Keiser, answering another call, witnessed a "suspicious male" leaving the store. 

Police said Keiser drove to the Troy Hills Village complex, saw Loffredo's grey car sitting in a side lot and parked his vehicle at the Vail Road entrance. Backup had arrived; the other patrol car positioned itself to block the entrance nearest to Walgreens.

Officers Ross Cooper, Marcin Czyjka and Peter Kolln entered the complex to search for the suspects, police said. Ptlm. Kinsey reported Officer Cooper found 44-year-old Loffredo in his  area inside of the complex and placed him under arrest.

Police said the suspect had $90 in his pocket.

Police said there was another suspect. The person driving the grey car when it fled the crime scene was apprehended and placed under arrest a short time later in a residential yard near Central Middle School. Officer Robert Smolen, who police said was searching the area for this  second suspect, heard dogs barking. Checking out the noise, he found the Loffredo's wife, 47-year-old Patricia Loffredo, yelling at the dogs in an attempt to make them stop barking.             

About $360 in allegedly stolen Halloween costumes and accessories were reportedly found in the suspects' vehicle, according to a Daily Record report. Police said Patricia Loffredo tried to exchange the items for cash at a nearby .

The Loffredos, who are from Parsippany, were processed at the Parsippany Police Department and sent to the Morris County Jail in lieu of bail.

Police said Richard Loffredo was charged with robbery, resisting arrest, eluding, obstruction of the administration of law, hindering apprehension and conspiracy to commit Robbery. His bail was set at $150,000 with no 10 percent option.

Patricia Loffredo faces charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, hindering apprehension, obstruction of the administration of law, resisting arrest, eluding and receiving stolen property. Her bail was set at $75,000, also without a 10 percent option.
