Police: Allegedly Drunk Lake Hiawatha Woman Drives Wrong Way, Parks on Sidewalk

Three charged last week with DWI after separate motor vehicle stops.

A Lake Hiawatha woman was charged with DWI last week after allegedly driving the wrong way and parking on the sidewalk on Buckingham Road, said Wednesday.

According to a report released by Sgt. Yvonne Christiano, Cathy A. Kane, 49, was charged with careless driving, DWI, driving on the sidewalk and failure to keep right.

Officer Gian Cacioppo was among those who responded to the report of a vehicle on the wrong side of Buckingham Road last Thursday at about 1:20 p.m., Christiano said.

Kane's vehicle was found parked on the sidewalk/grass area at the corner of Buckingham and Knoll roads, Christiano said.

Kane was determined to be allegedly driving while intoxicated and transported to police headquarters for processing before being released to a friend, Christiano said.

Officer Richard Howell charged a Little Ferry woman with DWI after conducting a motor vehicle stop Friday at about 3:35 a.m., Christiano said.

Rosemarie Rodriguez, 24, was charged with DWI and issued a summons for careless driving, Christiano said.

According to Christiano, Howell witnessed Rodriguez's vehicle in the empty parking lot of the closed Burger King restaurant on Route 46. Rodriguez then drove over a curb while attempting to exit the parking lot, Christiano said.

Rodriguez was determined to be allegedly under the influence of alcohol and transported to headquarters for processing before being released to a friend, Christiano said.

Howell also arrested a township man for DWI following a motor vehicle stop early Saturday morning on Route 46, Christiano said.

Brian Comerford, 56, was charged with DWI and careless driving after Howell witnessed his vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit on Route 46 near Waterview Boulevard at about 1:10 a.m., Christiano said.

Comerford was transported to headquarters for processing before being released to a friend, Christiano said.

Officer Michael Sprung arrested a Lake Hiawatha man early Tuesday morning for an active arrest warrant out of Boonton, Christiano said.

Sprung conducted a registration check on a 2007 Jaguar that revealed an active warrant in the amount of $1,000 for the vehicle's registered owner, Christiano said.

Sprung conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 46 West and arrested the driver and owner of the vehicle, Derev Diggs, 40, Christiano said.

Diggs was transported to headquarters for processing and turned over to the custody of the Boonton Police Department, Christiano said.
