Police Investigate 6th Recent Stolen-Tire Case

Authorities want to know who is taking wheels off of parked cars in Parsippany.

The is investigating a sixth recent case involving tires stolen off of a parked vehicle.

Police said the most recent report was called in Sunday at around 10 a.m. Officer William Stone responded to the parking lot of the Colonial Heights apartment complex to investigate a report of wheels stolen off of a 2012 Honda Accord.

The vehicle's owner told the office that the car was discovered sitting on top of three landscaping blocks, police said.

The value of the missing tires is said to be approximately $4,000.

Authorities believe the incident occurred sometime after 8 p.m. Saturday.

Local law enforcement is looking into five similar cases, the most recent of which took place . Two other incidents involving Honda or Acura vehicles left in residential parking areas were reported at the Mountain Club on Route 10 and two others occurred at Westgate Apartments on Parsippany Road, police said.

Department spokesperson Ptlm. Earl Kinsey said there is a demand on the black market for Honda and Acura wheels, whose "rims retail at about $400 per wheel plus the cost of tires."
