Cops: Man Shoves Woman to Ground, Steals Purse

Residents with information on the crime are asked to contact local law enforcement.

The reports an investigation is underway after a report of a purse snatching Tuesday afternoon in Lake Hiawatha.

Shortly after 2 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Iroquois Avenue and North Beverwyck Road a short time after a woman reported her pocketbook stolen, police said.

At the scene, Officer Michael Ruggier reportedly spoke to a woman who said that she was walking through a parking lot when a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt approached her from behind and grabbed her purse.

Police said that according to the woman, the suspect pushed her to the ground while pulling the pocketbook away from her. He then reportedly ran eastward on Iroquois before taking a shortcut through a back yard toward Chesapeake Avenue.

The witness said she lost sight of the suspect at that point, according to police.

The estimated value of the pocketbook and its contents was approximately $150, police said.

The victim reportedly sustained a minor injury in the altercation and police said she was treated at the scene by Par-Troy EMS.
