Racehorse Euthanized Following Route 80 Crash

Hay Beautiful, a racehorse traveling to Meadowlands Racetrack, was euthanized following an accident which is believed to have broken its back.

A racehorse was euthanized Friday after the trailer carrying it overturned on Route 80 while carrying it to Meadowlands Racetrack, according to a recent report.

On Friday a vehicle hauling the trailer containing two horses hit a pothole and lost control near Exit 47B on Route 80 East in Parsippany, according to nj.com.

Two horses were in the trailer — Hay Beautiful and Kissmatt — and were scheduled to compete at the Meadowlands Racetrack Friday night, a Meadowlands spokesperson told nj.com.

Kissmatt only had minor injuries and was able to stand up and walk.

A Meadowlands veterinarian responded to the accident and believed that Hay Beautiful's back was broken in the trash.

Due to the severity of the injury, the veterinarian euthanized the horse, State Police said.

“Everyone (on the scene) was really hoping it wasn't going to turn out the way it did," Heidi Mooney, an animal control officer for Parsippany, told nj.com.

Clarence White, 64, was driving the white Dodge pick-up alongside Jaime Morgan, 95, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. They were in the trailer during the accident but were not injured, said State Police spokesman Brian Polite.

No summonses were issued and the cause of the accident is still under investigation, he added.
