Police Report Three Arrests in the Township This Week

The following arrest information was supplied by the Parsippany Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A reported burglary in progress at a Twin Oaks Road residence led to a controlled-substance arrest on Wednesday, according to Parsippany police. Plmn. Earl Kinsey reported that officers responded to the home after receiving a call from an eyewitness who claimed to have seen a man enter the residence after putting his fist through a glass storm door. Upon arriving, the police found Parsippany resident Brian Laberth, 50, on the premises. Officers determined that Laberth, reported to be mumbling and wearing blood-smeared clothing, had permission to be in the home. They also discovered that Laberth had a small amount of heroin on his person, police said. Laberth ultimately was treated for minor lacerations. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and released pending a court date.

A 24-year-old Parsippany man faces a marijuana possession charge, according to police. Last Saturday, Officer Ross Cooper reportedly saw a car parked next to Lake Parsippany near the intersection of Alpine Road and Lakeshore Drive. Investigating the matter, the officer found a small amount of suspected marijuana. Paul Lertesz was arrested and charged with possessing less than 50 grams of marijuana. Police said the suspect was released on bail.

Police said a Montclair man with an outstanding Parsippany warrant was picked up on Monday. Officer Michael Sprung reportedly saw William M. Higgins, 42, park his vehicle behind a closed liquor store on North Beverwyck Road. Investigating the matter, the officer discovered Higgins had an outstanding arrest warrant in the amount of $500, according to Ptlm. Kinsey. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Morris County Jail, where police said he is being held in lieu of bail.
