Alleged Oxycodone Deals Lead to Separate Arrests

Parsippany Police say two men—one from Parsippany, the other from Fairfield—were arrested recently for separate incidents involving the alleged distribution of oxycodone in the township.

A police department statement says an investigation launched in August led to the arrest of Lake Hiawatha resident Richard Butyn, 28, who was taken into custody Oct. 23.

Butyn faces two counts of distribution of controlled dangerous substances, according to police.

Police spokesperson Patrolman Earl Kinsey said the probe that led to the arrest involved department-orchestrated drug buys in which Butyn allegedly sold oxycodone.

Kinsey said Butyn ultimately was released pending a court appearance.

The second incident came Oct. 17, according to a police statement, when Detective Daniel Cicala and Det. Sgt. Brian Dowd saw what appeared to be a drug transaction taking place in the parking lot of Wawa at 350 New Road.

The detectives approached the vehicle and encountered Robert J. Benjamin, 22, of Fairfield, who was sitting in the back seat, Kinsey said. Benjamin allegedly had three oxycodone pills and did not have a prescription for them, the statement said.

Kinsey said Benjamin was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and later was released pending a court date.
