Police: Woman Slams Into Back of EMS Vehicle That Was Responding to Emergency

Driver complained of chest pains, but declined medical treatment.

A woman complained of chest pains, but declined medical treatment Wednesday afternoon after her Nissan Infiniti LT slammed into the rear of a Parsippany EMS vehicle that was responding to a call, said Thursday.

According to a police report, the EMS driver was responding to an emergency with its lights activated and was struck from behind by the Nissan on Route 46 East near Lackawanna Avenue Wednesday at about 3:35 p.m.

The driver of the Nissan said she had her view of the ambulance blocked by another vehicle, police said. The woman said she attemped to stop, but slipped on a wet surface, striking the ambulance from behind, police said.

The Nissan's airbag deployed and the driver complained of chest pain, but declined medical treatment and was not transported to the hospital, Parsippany Patrolman Earl Kinsey said.

The Nissan was disabled and towed from the scene, but the EMS vehicle was driven from the scene, according to the report.
