Reward Offered for Information in Shooting of Cat

Pet remains in guarded condition after being wounded by small-caliber pellet.

A pet cat who was last weekend remains in guarded condition, while the Human Society has offered a cash reward for anyone with information on the incident, Parsippany Police said Friday.

The 2-year-old cat, named Shadow, was wounded by a .177-caliber pellet that is commonly shot from an air rifle, according to a statement released by the police department.

The pellet was surgically removed and caused damage to the cat's intestines, according to police. The veterinarian at Banfield Veterinary Hospital in East Hanover told police the cat remains in guarded condition.

According to police, the expenses totalled approximately $1,900 before the operation with additional costs still accruing. Donations have been made to offset some of the costs, police said.

The cat was found wounded by its Preston Avenue owner outside the residence last Sunday morning, police said. The incident occurred sometime between Saturday at noon and Sunday at 11 a.m., police said.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact the Parsippany Police at 973-263-4300. The Humane Society has offered a cash reward for anyone providing information leading to the identification of those responsible, police said.
