Route 10 Shut Down for Hours During Bomb Scare

Package found at Dunkin' Donuts in East Hanover determined not to be hazardous.

Authorities shut down Route 10 East in East Hanover Tuesday afternoon as they investigated a suspicious package, initially believed to have been a bomb.

The package was determined not to be hazardous, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said early Tuesday evening.

At about 12:12 p.m., employees of the Dunkin' Donuts on Route 10 East in East Hanover called 911 to report that while employees were checking a bathroom, they found what they believed to be an explosive device, according to the prosecutor's office.

Several law enforcement and public safety agencies—the East Hanover Police, Fire and EMS units, the Florham Park Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Service Unit and Criminal Investigation Section and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Weapons of Mass Destruction Assessment Team—responded for the investigation. Further investigation is being conducted by the East Hanover Police Department.
