Students Peek Into World of Law Enforcement

Agencies come together to provide educational experience.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Community Affairs Unit recently collaborated with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives' Northern New Jersey Chapter and various local colleges and universities to host the Law Enforcement Career Development Workshop.

The bi-annual event was created to assist students in their pursuit of career in law enforcement, the prosecutor's office said in prepared statement.

Students were given the opportunity to interact with representatives from various law enforcement agencies at the federal, state and local levels. Participating agencies included:

  • The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
  • The Federal Air Marshal Service
  • The FBI
  • New Jersey State Police
  • New Jersey Department of Corrections
  • The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office
  • Morris County Probation
  • The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office
  • The Morris County Bar Association.

The semester’s program included dressing for success, preparation for oral interviews, mock crime scenes, mock interviews, and a field trip to the Federal Air Marshal Service Newark Field Division.

The success of this program has caused more agencies and organizations to participate, making the Career Development Workshop an even more diverse and popular program for students, according to the prosecutor's office.
