Tax Scam Targeting Parsippany Indian Community

Parsippany Police alert residents to tax scam.

The following message is from the Parsippany Police Department:

The Parsippany Police wanted to bring a security concern to your attention. Over the past month, it appears that a group of individuals have been attempting to scam residents of the Indian population in Parsippany. In May, a victim was led to believe that he was currently under investigation for violating Federal and State tax laws, and he subsequently paid approximately $4000 to “settle out of court” and avoid arrest. He later learned he was the victim of a scam. Two additional, similar incidents occurred in June. In all instances, the caller targeted Parsippany residents of Indian descent and led them to believe that they were in trouble with the government and seeking monies to “rectify” the situation.

As you know, Parsippany has a large Indian population, and there is a strong possibility that other incidents like this have occurred but have gone unreported. Please share this information with friends and neighbors and encourage them to make a police report if they were victimized. The Parsippany Police Department is here to assist in any way, and we want to stop these actors from preying on citizens of our community.
