Teens Caught With the Goods in Days Inn Burglaries

The following arrest information was supplied by the Parsippany Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

One year in age made the difference for two Parsippany teenagers arrested in connection with parked-car burglaries at the at 3159 Route 46 in the early morning of June 14.

One, Elmedhi Ouljama, 18, faces adult charges including burglary and theft of movable property, according to . Charges are pending against the other teen, who is 17 years old. Under law, he cannot be identified and is treated as a juvenile.

Both were found in possession of various items reported stolen from vehicles in the Days Inn's parking lot, police said.

The PPD was called to the scene just after 1 a.m. regarding an apparently unlocked rental vehicle that had been burglarized. Police said there were signs of entry and a number of missing things, including suitcases, plane tickets, a GPS unit, a digital camera and $1,000 in cash.

The motel’s surveillance video showed two young men in the lot. Police then looked around area shopping centers for anyone who matched the descriptions derived from the video.

Officer Marcin Czajka found Ouljama and his 17-year-old colleague at the McDonald’s near the Morris Hills Shopping Center, police said.

The teens reportedly were found holding the rental car driver's Australian currency.

Police also gained leads for another alleged crime: The juvenile reportedly had debit cards belonging to another victim whose vehicle been burglarized at the Days Inn. That incident had not yet been reported.

Police said some of the stolen items were not recovered, but what was found was returned to its owners.

The juvenile was released to the custody of his father, police said, while Ouljama was arrested and released without bail pending a court appearance.
