Man Suffers Serious Head Injuries in 3-Car Accident on I-80

Crash on Monday tied up traffic around rush hour.

A crash involving three vehicles Monday at Exit 47A on Interstate 80 West resulted in a Clifton man being airlifted to Morristown Memorial Hospital with head injuries, state police said Tuesday.

The accident, which occurred at around 3 p.m., occurred when a Toyota Highlander, driven by Edward Ward, 68, of Clifton, struck a Ford F550 after Ward lost control of the car as he was driving in the right lane, according to State Police Capt. Frank Davis.

The ford was driven by Joey Sapp, 41, of Bethlehem, Pa. After hitting Sapp's car, Ward's Highlander skittered into the center lane, where it was hit by a Honda Accord, driven by Byron Matias-Urzua, 31, of South Bound Brook, Davis said.
