Unlocked Cars Hit by Burglars, Police Say

The incidents involve thousands of dollars in reportedly stolen electronics items, according to local law enforcement.

report numerous vehicles were reported burglarized between last Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The common link, according to police: The vehicles all were left unlocked.

A number of the incidents took place on Whitewood Drive, according to PPD spokesperson Sgt. Yvonne Christiano. Garmin GPS units valued at $170 each were taken from a 2007 Toyota, a 1999 Honda, a 2003 Honda and a 2006 BMW, she said, adding that a $300 pair of sunglasses also was removed from the BMW.

A 2009 Toyota also on Whitewood Drive was hit, and had a purse, gift cards and personal identifying information taken, said Christiano.

Additionally, she said a 2009 Ford on Prospect Ave. had $1,710 in various electronics and personal items stolen, and a 2005 Dodge on Park Road was relieved of a $150 iPod Nano and a Garmin GPS valued at $150.

Police said a 2005 Cadillac on Arlington Ave. was among those reportedly breached, but that no items were reported stolen from the vehicle.

Most of the vehicles were parked in residential driveways, police said.
