WDHA Honors Par-Troy Firefighters at Blackthorn

Listener nominations made Friday's tribute event possible.

Radio station 105.5 WDHA hosts a special event at Parsippany's Blackthorn Irish Restaurant and Pub Friday evening that will pay tribute to the township's volunteer fire companies.

WDHA listeners contacted the station to nominate entities to be recognized for the Guinness Give Back in Black event, and the winning group is made up of the six fire departments serving Parsippany-Troy Hills: Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department, Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Company #3, , Parsippany District 5 Fire Departmentand Parsippany Troy-Hills Fire District 6

The event benefits the Leary Firefighters Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 2000 by actor/comedian Denis Leary in response to a tragic fire in Worcester, Mass., that claimed the lives of his cousin, a childhood friend, and four other firefighters. The foundation’s mission, according to its website, is to provide funding and resources for fire departments to obtain the best available equipment, technology and training.
