Adoption Extravaganza Coming to Parsippany

Parsippany's Animal Control office is looking for nice homes for nice cats and kittens.

The Parsippany Animal Shelter will hold a special Adoption Extravagaza event starting next Wednesday. The special event will feature what Animal Control Supervisor Chris Dikovics calls "probably the loveliest collection of kittens that we've ever had."

The focus of the adoption push is approximately 26 kittens that will be available at the shelter and ready for forever families by Wednesday.

"We offer a cat or kitten that is feline AIDS- and leukemia-tested–negative of course, said Dikovics. "They receive distemper shots, and they are spayed or neutered before they're offered for adoption.

"What is super-attractive is that we offer this complete package for only $35 per kitten or cat. Our motto here is we want to put nice animals in nice people's homes."

Of course, Dikovics said, every day is a special day to adopt at the shelter, which takes every opportunity it can to spread the message of adopting shelter pets.

"It was a great event," he said. "The dogs were well-behaved and, coincidentally, they had hot dogs for sale with Italian ice and water. It was a good time for everyone."

While dogs are adopted from the Parsippany shelter when they are available, Dikovics said that the emphasis at present now is on cats.

"Right now we're taking in kittens," he said. "They're completely socialized, no real spitters and hissers. They're nice kittens."

If you're looking to add to your family, whether you are interested in a dog or cat, or if you would like to make a donation toward helping shelter pets, contact Parsippany Animal Control at 973-263-7083. And if a cat or kitten is what you seek, Dikovics said Wednesday's Adoption Extravaganza is for you.
