After Nearly 3 Decades, Silver to Retire as Town Clerk

Parsippany's longest-serving clerk to leave post May 31.

The township’s longest-serving clerk will retire this month after 27 years in the position.

Business Administrator Jasmine Lim announced during the township’s council meeting Tuesday that Judith Silver, who has been employed by Parsippany-Troy Hills since 1984, will retire on May 31.

Council members made it clear that they were not at all eager to see Silver leave.

“I just want Judy to know we’re not happy about this,” a smiling Vice President Michael dePierro said. “Those are very, very big shoes to fill. But we’re very happy for you on your retirement.”

Lim said she has already received three applications to fill the position.

Council President John Fox and dePierro will serve as the subcommittee to help choose the next clerk.

Since the township does not currently have a deputy clerk, Lim said she contacted a recently retired clerk she knows who will be trained by Silver and work on a part-time basis.

Residents came up during the public-comment section and after the meeting to give Silver their best wishes.

Council candidate Roy Messmer told Silver during the meeting that he would miss her and was truly lost for words.

“I don’t think the public can understand, unless you’ve had contact with Judy, what a top-notch clerk she is,” Messmer said.
