Brooklawn MS Voter: 'Disappointed by the Turnout'

Poll workers say few voters took the time to cast ballots

At Brooklawn Middle School, precious few voters showed up to vote during Patch's visit.

"It's been slow the whole day," said election worker Eileen Steuer.

"Primaries tend to be slow," said Steuer's colleague Kiran Mahajan.

Lillian McGlincy and her husband, Martin, were among the few voters Patch encountered at the polling place at 7:15 p.m.

"I'm so disappointed by the turnout," she said. "I think it's everyone's responsibility to vote. You can't complain about what's going on in government if you don't vote."

McGlincy said the issue of education was the most important matter that compelled her to cast her ballot.

"That's probably because my husband is a teacher in Tenafly," she said.

The primary election polls will remain open until 8 p.m. Voters will decide the party nominees for Town Council, the Morris County Board of Freeholders, the New Jersey General Assembly and the state Senate.

Stick with Patch for results.
