Christie Nominates Former Parsippany Mayor as Dover Court Judge

Michael M. Luther would serve for five municipalities.

The office of Gov. Chris Christie announced Monday that former Parsippany mayor and Mt. Tabor resident Michael M. Luther was nominated for appointment as judge of the Dover Joint Municipal Court. Luther's nomination was one of 27 made by Christie, and the only of a Morris County resident.

The court serves five municipalities: Dover, Mine Hill, Wharton, Mount Arlington and Rockaway Borough.

"Mr. Luther previously had been serving in a similar capacity on an interim basis, a role he was designated to by the assignment judge," Christie spokesperson Sean Conner said in a statement. "Governor Christie sought and accepted the recommendations of the local elected officials to formally nominate Mr. Luther for the seat."

Luther's work as an interim judge helped lead to his nomination as the judge in Dover, according to a judiciary spokesperson.

"Judge Theodore Bozonelis, who is the assignment judge in Morris-Sussex County, at the request of the five mayors comprising the leadership of the town in the Dover Joint Court, issued an order placing Michael Luther as the interim judge for that court, pending an appointment by the governor for a more permanent appointment," spokesperson Winnie Comfort said in a statement.

The nomination is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
