Council Candidate Brian Stanton: 'Taxpayers Are My Top Priority'

Team Parsippany member says he has more to offer to township residents.

Brian Stanton is running for his first full term as a member of the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Council. He became a council member in January 2010, filling the former seat of Mayor James Barberio.

"I am running for re-election because I truly believe that I have demonstrated my commitment and dedication to our community," he said. "I have a great deal more to offer."

Stanton is part of the Team Parsippany ticket, which includes fellow council incumbents John Fox, Michael dePierro and Vincent Ferrara. According to the candidate, the team has done a good job so far.

"The work that I have participated in during my time on the council has been targeted toward reducing our property taxes and maintaining our quality of life. I believe that we have been successful  in our goal to maintain services while proposing a budget that was within the two percent hard cap," he said. "I believe that my contributions to the council have helped to move our community forward."

Stanton is a 38-year township resident who graduated from Parsippany High School and attended Morris County Community College and Jersey City State College. He graduated from the Morris County Police Academy in 1996 and has worked for the Morris County Sheriff ever since. While there, he has been involved with the Policemen's Benevolent Association Local 151, serving at various times as president, vice president, executive vice president and treasurer.

Stanton participates in a host of community groups, including the Sons of Italy, The Italian American Police Society of New Jersey, and the Elks of Parsippany. Married and the father of three, he is also involved with the Rockaway Meadow and Central Middle schools' PTAs. In the political realm, Stanton is a member of both the Parsippany Republican Committee and the Parsippany Republican Club.

According to Stanton, his most important responsibility as a council member is to stand up for the township's homeowners.

"Parsippany's taxpayers are my number one priority," he said. "I love Parsippany—and I want to ensure that our government continues to spend our tax dollars in a responsible manner."

As with other Team Parsippany members, Stanton's primary issues include cutting property taxes and maintaining the level of service citizens demand.  He supports protecting open spaces such as the former Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital property and calls for enforcing the township's occupancy ordinances.

Stanton said his bottom line, however, is representing his constituents.

"In the future, the community can count on me to continue to be a strong voice on the council committed to maintaining the high quality of life that each and every resident deserves in Parsippany," he said.
