Council OKs Hikes in White-Collar Salary Ranges

The changes allow higher maximum salaries for town employees including the mayor.

The unanimously approved an ordinance at its Tuesday meeting that would raise the maximum salaries allowed for a long list of township workers.

Under the measure, Mayor James Barberio and his successors (unless the law is changed in the future) must earn between $106,489 and $115,000 per year. The town's chief executive presently makes the minimum salary allowed for his position.

Position Salary Range Council President  $13,980-$16,000 Council Member  $12,589-$14,000 Animal Control Officer $26,000-$60,000 Chief Financial Officer $50,000-$125,000 Chief of Police $150,000-$190,000 Parks and Recreation Director $35,000-$95,000 Golf Superintendent $35,000-$98,000 Housing Coordinator $27,000-$65,000 Recreation Supervisor $23,000-$62,000 Township Clerk $35,000-$98,000

The ordinance also includes longevity payments in addition to the regular salary for every five years of service that covers all employees hired prior to Jan. 1, 1996:

  • After five years - $300
  • After 10 years - $700
  • After 15 years - $900
  • After 20 years - $1,300
  • After 25 years - $1,600

The measure was opened to the public for comments, but no one came forward to speak. The council then approved the ordinance unanimously.

The new law takes effect retroactively to Jan. 1, 2012 for all employees working at that time.
