DeCroce Spends Election Day With Residents

The 26th District lawmaker faces one challenger in Tuesday's GOP primary.

The day is making 26th District Asw. BettyLou DeCroce a little nervous. She is on the ballot for the June 5 primary election, .

, which belonged to her late spouse, former The vote by the county GOP committee gave her the seat through 2012, but rank-and-file citizens must determine whether the new assemblywoman can finish out the full term, which ends in 2013.

She faces one challenger in the primary: , who is running on a platform that calls for term limits and lowering salaries for some state employees and government officials, including Assembly members.

Asked if she is feeling confident, DeCroce said yes, but confessed to feeling a wee bit nervous.

"I am working to keep busy today," the Parsippany resident told Patch. "My chief of staff has carved out some time for me to do some gardening, and I'm talking with voters."

In fact, DeCroce met and spoke with patrons at the on Route 46. There wasn't much talk about the issues, mostly residents wishing the candidate well.

Meanwhile, her late husband is on her mind on Election Day.

"I know Alex is with me, cheering me on," DeCroce said. "I have a feeling that it is going to be a good day."

The polls remain open in Parsippany until 8 p.m.
