NJDOT Announces I-80 Traffic Shifts in Parsippany

Officials say construction is expected through Sept. 2012.

State transportation department officials announced new changes for Interstate 80 traffic patterns in a release Sept. 9.  The changes will affect both directions over I-287 northbound and Smith Road in Parsippany.

The DOT said construction zones are now up and running. Three travel lanes will be maintained in each direction of I-80 during daytime hours, split around either side of the new work zone. Motorists should expect to see periodic overnight closures of the I-80 eastbound ramp to I-287 northbound.

During the ramp closures, officials suggest that I-80 eastbound motorists headed for I-287 northbound use the ramp to I-287 southbound to the Parsippany Road interchange to make a U-turn back onto I-287 northbound.

The construction is part of NJDOT's $6,4 million project to replace the four existing, structurally deficient I-80 bridge decks over I-287 northbound and Smith Road. The job is expected to be completed in summer 2012, though that could change because of weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for construction updates andreal-time travel information.
