Parking Banned On Parsippany Streets Overnight

Police say the prohibition is being enforced to allow early morning snow plowing.

In preparation for a , the reminds residents that local law empowers officials to impose a temporary parking ban to allow for early morning snow plowing and removal when needed.

The National Weather Service forecasts that Parsippany could receive between 3-6 inches of snow between 1 and 5 a.m. 

With that in mind, the PPD will enforce the prohibition and warns drivers not to leave cars and vehicles parked on roadways overnight.

The directive, from township code, is as follows:

§ 405-10. Temporary parking prohibition for snow plowing and removal

A. Prohibition.

(1) Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets and highways, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall be parked on any street or highway or portions thereof.

(2) The above parking prohibitions shall remain in effect until after the snow has ceased and the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.

B. Any unoccupied vehicle parked or standing in violation shall be deemed a nuisance and a menace to the safe and proper regulation of traffic, and any police officer may provide for the removal of such vehicle. The owner shall pay the reasonable costs of the removal and storage which may result from such removal before regaining possession of the vehicle.`
