Parsippany Gets New Insurer

Town Council finds a successor to the controversial Morris County JIF coverage it's had for municipal workers since 2008.

As part of an omnibus listing of items considered "routine," the approved a number of actions at its regular meeting Tuesday night. Among the moves made, the council unanimously approved a plan to authorize the town to join the Garden State Municipal Joint Insurance Fund as of Jan. 1, 2012.

The arrangement would be for three years and provide health insurance coverage for township employees. A separate two-year contract between the township and Garden State Municipal JIF would cover property and casualty insurance services for the town.

The new insurer replaces the , whose controversial contract with Parsippany is expiring soon.

The council also approved a one-year pact with Delta Dental of New Jersey for $539,685 and a $1.38 million contract with Insurance Design Administrators to provide claims processing services.

Also approved as part of the consent agenda: amendments to the township's 2011 budget adding state grants for pedestrian safety and anti-drunk driving campaigns that total $13,000 in revenue for Parsippany.
