Following his election to the freeholder board, Cesaro announced he had resigned his seat on the Parsippany Township Council. His first freeholder meeting was Wednesday.

Cesaro will fill the remainder of Feyl’s term until the end of the year, and if elected in November, would begin serving a new three-year term in January.

Cesaro was nominated for the position by his running mates, John Krickus, of Washington Township, and David Scapicchio, of Mount Olive.

The three Republicans will face in November Democrats Wasim Kahn, of Parsippany; Toshiba Foster, of Morristown; and Joy Singh, of Morris Plains.

Cesaro thanked his running mates and the party for their support. He also thanked incumbent freeholders John Murphy, Feyl and Freeholder Director William Chegwidden for their service.

Chegwidden was defeated in the primary.

"The taxpayers need to know that I will work hard for their best interests," Cesaro said.

The convention also re-elected the county committee’s leadership, including Chairman John Sette, who has served since 2002.
