Parsippany to Honor Vigilante With Plaque

There is a wall outside the council chambers with plaques in memory of notable people who have served the township as a council member or mayor.

Outside the Parsippany-Troy Hills council chambers is a wall of plaques in memory of notable township council members or mayors. It includes names such as Huston Taylor, Dorothy Jurgel and John Notte.

Soon, you can stop by and see James Vigilante on that wall as well. Vigilante died Sunday, Nov. 17, from a heart attack at the age of 49 and he was a U.S. Air Force Reserves Master Sgt., Morris County Republican Committee member and former Parsippany Town Councilman.

Resident Pat Petaccia said during public forum, “what I would really like for this council to do, as soon as possible, is to acknowledge Mr. Vigilante with a plaque outside like all the other council members.”

“We’re planning to do that,” said Jasmine Lim, business administrator.

“I appreciate it and I’m sure everyone in the community does,” said Petaccia.

His funeral at the Saint Peter the Apostle Church this past Friday was attended by hundreds in the community.

Vigilante’s coffin was draped with an American flag as it was carried out of the church, followed by a ceremonial folding of the flag, three volleys of shots fired in honor Vigilante and the playing of Taps.
