Strumolo Joins List of Parsippany Primary Election Candidates

Filing deadline's past for major-party candidates; 5 Republicans, 2 Democrats vying for two open council seats

Monday was the last day for local Republicans and Democrats interested in running in the 2013 elections to register as candidates. Shortly after the 4 p.m. deadline, Parsippany Municipal Clerk Yancy Wazirmas released the final list of major-party residents running for elective office in the town's June 4 primary.

There were few surprises to be found: Most of the candidates, specifically the Republican Barberio and Carifi mayor-council tickets and the Democratic Nelson slate, announced their campaigns earlier this year.

But there was one last registrant, according to the list: Board of Education member Michael Strumolo filed at Town Hall Monday afternoon to run in the Township Council race.

In the primary election, candidates will vie for the nomination within their own political party. The Democratic and Republican party nominees will face off against each other in the general election, which is scheduled Nov. 5.

Independent and unaffiliated candidates have until June 4 to register if they wish to run in the general election, said Wazirmas. She explained that those interested in filing must do so with the Morris County Clerk. For more information on requirements and the deadline, contact the office at 973-829-8219.
