Town Council Gathers Tuesday Night

The agenda reveals a host of routine items ranging from renewable energy to affordable housing.

Solar power and the planned Baldwin House sale are among the items on the agenda for the Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Council's regular meeting Tuesday night at Town Hall.

One matter slated to be discussed in council chambers is a Memorandum of Understanding between the township and the state Department of Community Affairs. Council President Michael dePierro explained that the memorandum, if approved by the body, would allow affordable group housing to be built in Parsippany using $1 million in municipal housing trust fund money—not tax dollars, he emphasized.

"If we don't use the money, the state takes it and we still have the obligation of creating moderately-priced housing," dePierro said.

If the MOU is okayed by the council, in addition to the money Parsippany would put into the project, the DCA would contribute $500,000.

The Town Council is also scheduled to discuss the forthcoming bid process for the installation of a 30KW roof-mounted solar panel array for the Parsippany Community Center.

The previously announced prospective sale of the Baldwin House to the township is on the agenda again. This time, the council will consider an ordinance to authorize the acquisition of the property at 460 S. Beverwyck Road. Other ordinances up for a vote include ones that would establish fire zones and regulate parking at 77 E. Halsey Road and at Arya International at 1571 Route 46.

The council also will consider a license renewal application for a regional limousine company. New Diamond Transportation LLC is based out of Parsippany, at 239 New Road.

The Township Council meeting is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
