Free Training Offered for Community Emergency Response Team

The classes are once a week for six weeks and start next Wednesday

With the devastation that Sandy and Irene brought, Parsippany Township is rolling up its sleeves and making sure its prepared.

The hurricanes and superstorms showed that there is a “need for certified volunteers trained to assist first responders in our township,” according to the township. “In the event of another natural disaster, pandemic outbreak, large scale fire, terrorist attack or long term electrical outage, the Parsippany Citizen Emergency Response Team is about readiness and people helping people.”

Mayor James Barberio and Parsippany Emergency Management Coordinator Chief  Paul Philipps announced Parsippany’s 8th Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training class.

Sign up for this free opportunity soon because classes begin next Wednesday. It runs every Wednesday evening for six weeks at Parsippany Police Headquarters.

The classes are from 6:30 – 10 p.m. and includes instruction on topics such as fire suppression, first aid, search and rescue, team organization and response to terrorist incidents, according to the township. No previous emergency training is required.

CERT is comprised of adult residents with no real background in first response before attending this training.
