Winter Storm Watch in Time for Halloween Weekend

Morris County could be hit with as much as 3-6 inches of the white stuff or more, experts say.

Parsippany's says get prepared. A National Weather Service winter storm watch is in effect all day Saturday for a number of counties in New Jersey, including Morris.

According to NWS, the township could see as much as 3-6 inches of snow or more—some areas could end up with very heavy accumulation as a result of this early-season storm.

OEM Coordinator Eric Hubner told Patch he is confident the township's Department of Public Works can handle the snow and will monitor events as they happen.

"We are not anticipating the worst here. I expect we'll see nothing more than wet snow," he said. "Because the streets haven't frozen, I'd be surprised if there was any real accumulation. The only exception to that would be the Powder Mill section, where the temperature tends to be two or three degrees lower than the rest of the town. We may see some snow stick there."

Then again, Schneider said, nothing may happen at all.

"But if it does," he said, "we're ready."

If something does happen weatherwise on Saturday, the NWS warned that the storm could bring dangerous conditions to the area: Travel may become difficult and hazardous, trees covered with leaves could become overloaded with wet snow and fall as a result, which  can cause, at the least, downed electric lines and loss of power.

Hubner concurred that fallen trees and limbs could create a potentially dangerous situation.

As always, he reminded people to make sure they are ready when or if the snow storm hits.

"OEM always urges foks to be ready for 3-5 days," Hubner said. "Plan, prepare, stay informed."
