BOE Calls 'Emergency Meeting' for Thursday Morning

Meeting to 're-adopt' the budget, ordered by county superintendent of schools.

The Parsippany Board of Education has been instructed by Morris County Superintendent of Schools Kathleen Serafino to hold an emergency meeting Thursday to take action on the budget, school board member Robert Crawford said.

He said the meeting at 8 a.m. would be to "re-adopt" the preliminary budget, which was rejected by Serafino on Monday.

"Why she wants us to do that is unclear," Crawford said.

According to board member Andrew Choffo, the meeting is open.

Serafino last because it was above the  $175,000 state salary cap for school administrators in a district the size of Parsippany.

The board didn't rescind the contract, but changed the line item for Seitz's salary from $216,000 to about $205,000, factoring in a merit pay increase and $5,000 since the district has two high schools.
