Sharif Shamsudin: Students Need Courtesy Busing, Better Sports Programs

Lake Hiawatha resident says schoool board needs better 'cohesiveness.'

There are nine candidates running for three school board seats next month. Within the next few weeks, Parsippany Patch will be featuring stories and bios on the candidates.

Name: Sharif Shamsudin
Neighborhood: Lake Hiawatha
Occupation: Mortgage Broker
Civic Involvement: Par Troy Wrestling Club President

What Parsippany Students Need Most: It depends on how you look at it.  Some students need transportation. Walking to school with no sidewalks is dangerous. I know school bus routes were cut and I went to Knollwood School as a child and always had a bus.  My parents would never let me walk that route.

What the BOE Needs Most: Better cohesiveness. Everyone needs to be able to give input on all matters. The way it is now some board members are questioned everytime they try to give input on important matters.

District Strengths: We ranked as one of the top high schools in the state recently. That is a great achievement.

What Needs Improvement: Our sports programs. When I was in high school we always had great teams.  With that came great academics. If you look at all the top school districts they all rank high in athletics. I don't think we focus on our athletics at all.  If we had better involvement with sports I believe we will also have better academics.

LeRoy Seitz Contract: If someone is paid more then he should get then he should take on greater roles. There are many positions that can be consolidated and can be taken on by the superintendent.  The average salary for a school district our size is $175,000.
