Community Emergency Response Team Training

The Parsippany Office of Emergency Management presents free Community Emergency Response Team training starting Oct. 13, 2011.

CERT is a 20-hour hands-on course that teaches adults to be better prepared in the event of a major disaster and to form into effective neighborhood teams to assist others. During CERT training, participants will learn how and when to turn off utilities, basic fire suppression including the proper use of an extinguisher, basic first aid, hazardous materials awareness, light search and rescue techniques and self-reliance during times of emergency.

Lessons will include both classroom lectures and hands-on training. The final class will be a practical exercise where the students will test their new knowledge in a mock disaster setting.

Classes will be on Thursday evenings at the Community Center from 7-10PM.

There is no cost to attend but pre-registration is required.  Those who complete the course will receive a certificate from the Parsippany Office of Emergency Management and then be invited to join the Parsippany CERT team.
