Knollwood Elementary Receives State Grant for New Boiler

The funding comes through the state's Schools Development Authority.

The State of New Jersey will help Parsippany's Knollwood Elementary School to have its boiler replaced. On Thursday, the Christie Administration announced that the school will receive a $222,272 grant through the Schools Development Authority’s Regular Operating District Grant Program.

The state contribution covers a portion of the cost of installing a new boiler for the school. The township's share of the project's $555,680 price tag is $333,408.

"Obviously, we are grateful for the grant that helps us continue our long range facility plan to upgrade our buildings," said Parsippany schools' Superintendent LeRoy Seitz.

In a statement, the administration said the grant furthers Gov. Chris Christie's goal to make schools safe, modern and efficient.

Since May 2010, the SDA has distributed 631 grants totalling more than $185 million. Under the program, grants provide at least 40 percent of eligible costs for approved projects addressing health and safety issues, student overcrowding and other critical needs.

The Department of Education selects school projects to receive SDA funding. The money became available through the sale of $500 million in bonds by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.
