Northvail School Collects Pennies for Patients

Effort is to help a 10-year-old Par-Troy child

One penny at a time, Parsippany schoolkids are making a difference at Northvail Elementary School, where students are participating in the "Pennies for Patients" Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraiser.

Under the coordination of teacher Tracey Hedden, student council members, students, staff and families generously made contributions during the past several weeks totalling more than  $3,000 again this year.

Coming in first place was Mrs. McDougall’s fourth-grade class.

Second-gradr Samantha Egger donated $110.00, the total sum of her personal savings.

“Kids that have cancer need it more than I do,” she said.

The fundraiser provided the students with an opportunity to learn about service, leadership and altruism.   More importantly, through their donations they are helping to make a significant impact on the local lives of patients currently fighting leukemia and lymphoma.

The funds collected this year were in honor of a 10-year-old Parsippany boy.
