Par-Troy Board of Ed Presents Student and Teacher Awards

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education presented student and teacher of the year awards during its Thursday night meeting.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education held a special award ceremony during Thursday night's meeting at Parsippany Hills High School, attended by hundreds of proud parents, relatives and teachers.

Awards were presented to students from Band, presented by Director Mike Iapicca; Choir, presented by Director Linda Clark; Boys Basketball, presented by Coach Mark Gibson; Girls Basketball, presented by Coach Eniola Honsberger; DECA, presented by Advisor John Pico; Future Business Leaders of America, presented by Advisor Ahmed Kandil; Ice Hockey, presented by Coach Jared Wohl; Math League, presented by Advisors Eric Berkowitz and Catherine Driscoll; Boys Swimming, presented by Coach William Soden; and Girls Swimming, presented by Coach William Soden.

The board also presented distinguished faculty awards to Kara Baltuch, Eastlake School Math Teacher and Fred Douglas, Coordinator of Counseling at Parsippany Hills High School.

“They tricked me,” joked Douglas about his colleagues. “I've worked here so long that they have all become friends. I am so proud to be a part of this community but to receive this award is just great.”

Teacher of the year awards were presented to Alison Franz, Brooklawn Middle; Lisa Ramundo, Central Middle; Kara Baltuch, Eastlake; Cheryl Ries, Intervale; Sue Miele-Motyka, Knollwood; Wendy Brindle, Lake Hiawatha; Cynthia Gosden, Lake Parsippany; Paulette Feintuch, Littleton; Amanda Priore, Mt. Tabor; Ann Marie Carrasca, Northvail; Damaris Delgado-Melendez; Tricia Yacullo, Parsippany Hills High; Alice Thomas, Rockaway Meadow and Rosemary Moore, Troy Hills.

“I'm lucky that I like what I do and I don't consider it a job,” said Franz as she accepted her award. “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.”
