Parsippany Schools Could Be ‘Great,’ Incoming Chief Says

After being unanimously approved by the Parsippany Board of Education, Scott Rixford is already assessing ways to make the district better three months before his contract starts.

The 51-year-old former Executive Superintendent in Bergen and Passaic counties, who will oversee Morris County’s largest district of 7,000 students, said in a dailyrecord.com report that he was drawn to the job because Parsippany has “foundation necessary to advance from good to ‘great.’”

The incoming administrator said in the report he believes the implementation of Common Core won’t be a very large departure from what New Jersey was already doing, and that communicating with the community would be essential.

“I think we need to look at additional opportunities for forums where people can receive more information so they can make an informed decision,” Rixford said in the report.

Rixford’s contract officially begins July 1. Current interim Superintendent John Fitzsimmons will end his one-year contract with the district on April 23, and former district Assistant Superintendent of Special Services Vincent Aniello will return to overse the district from April 24 to June 30.
