Parsippany Students Honored for Achievements

Board of Education holds year-end awards ceremony.

Several students were honored at Thursday night’s Board of Education meeting for their high-level academic achievements in representing the district.

The math team, which took home several different awards including first place in the Morris County division of the New Jersey Math League, 11th place in New Jersey and second place in the AES Middle School Math Competition, was among those honored.

Students Jonathan Ho, Marine-Ayan Ibrahim Aibo, Samip Thakore, Daniel Wang, Kevin Zhao, Christine Lu and Michael Wang were in attendance to be honored for both their team and individual efforts.

Math team coach, Mary-Jo Solomon, was also recognized by Central Middle School Principal Norman Francis. In addition to her efforts in coaching the children, Solomon was also recognized as one of 13 district educators who is retiring at the conclusion of the school year.

“Thank you so much, Mary-Jo, for your dedication and commitment to our kids,” Francis said.

Principal Nancy Gigante also recognized several students at her school, including the school’s Academic Decathlon Competition of America team. The team finished second in the regional decathlon competition and fifth in the state and was chock-full of individual awards.

The team was comprised of Kristen Chen, Steven Fu, Nikhil Jog, Anirudh Kakkaramadam, Navi Kalia, Rima Majmundar, Devansi Patel, Michelle Ting, Alex Wang, Brian Wong, Samantha Wu and Anji Zhao.

Kakkaramadam and Zhao also participated on the Parsippany Hills High School math team, taking top honors in the Morris County division on the New Jersey Mathematics Team. They were joined by teammate Eric Chao in receiving that honor, while fellow students Rahul Manne and Suraj Shukla finished first in the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey’s Pi Section.

Kakkaramadam also showed technological prowess, finishing second in technical sketching while representing Parsippany Hills’ Technology Student Association at the Technology State Conference. Fellow student Tiffany Leung also did well, receiving first-place honors in the “Essays on Technology” category at the conference.
