School Board Honors One of Its Own

The BOE building is keeping the memory of a late former member alive.

Before Thursday night's meeting got underway, the body took a few moments to give a lasting tribute to a fallen colleague with the opening of the Harold Feintuch Learning Center.

Board member Anthony Mancuso recently suggested to President Frank Calabria that something should be done to honor Feintuch, who passed away in 2007. Feintuch served more than a decade on the BOE, from 1992 to 2005. He was the board's president for five years.

The learning center, in the BOE building at 292 Parsippany Road, was dedicated officially Thursday before a large crowd of well-wishers.

"Harold was a strong believer in giving the students of Parsippany the best education possible," Mancuso said in his remarks at the dedication ceremony. "Harold felt that the best way to get our students that education was to invest in educating our teachers. [He] championed helping to pay for our teachers' continuing education, as well as providing them with in-service courses to help continue to make them the best that they could be."

Mancuso said the learning center will be used to support the school district's mission to enhance teaching and learning excellence for faculty, students and staff in Parsippany-Troy Hills.

Feintuch's widow, Paulette, and their two sons, Lewis and Kyle, were on hand for the ceremony.

"We miss him a lot," said Lewis Feintuch, as his brother nodded in agreement.

Their mother agreed as well.

"But if he's looking down, I know he is loving this," she said.
