The Parsippany Board of Education is looking to fill a vacant seat after one of its members resigned recently.

Gary Martin submitted his resignation to the district on June 24 for personal reasons, according to board president Fran Orthwein. Martin’s term was set to end this year.

The board plans to fill the seat at its Aug. 28 meeting, and individuals interested in occupying the spot are encouraged to submit resumes and request consideration to the Board Secretary and Business Administrator H. Ronald Smith no later than 1 p.m. on Friday, July 18.

Submissions can be sent to the Board of Education Building at 292 Parsippany Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054.

Before then, however, the board will hold a closed session meeting on Saturday, July 19 from 9 a.m. to noon to discuss new superintendent Scott Rixford’s 2014-15 merit goals. An open session will be held at noon for a Food Service Presentation.

Rixford was hired in May and given a five-year contract that will expire in 2019. His first day was July 1.

The board’s regular meeting will be held on Thursday, July 24 at 7 p.m. with a closed session, followed by an open session at 7:30 p.m. at the board of education building.
